2- Difficult to get Backlinks - Now I will take You by taking your example only. Suppose You have a very good website and You also provide Backlinks to other websites so do you want your viewers to visit from your site to a site which has a free sub domain Ofcourse not as it will spoil your reputation too. So Why others will give Backlinks to your Blog which has a sub domain ? Think It.

3- Not Good For Reputation - If You are using a free domain then the chances of other Companies reaching to you is very less because they always want those to promote their product Who have invested in their Business and have a Good market reputation. So many companies will feel that you are not serious about Your work and just using it as your hobby so they will most propably not reach to you.
